The Azores is situated in the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of North America and Europe. Azores is a district not a nation. The fundamental language is Portuguese. The archipelago is 760 miles from Lisbon and 2,110 miles from New York. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The Azores is comprised of nine lovely and intriguing islands, Corvo, Flores, Faial, Graciosa, Pico, Sao Jorge, Sao Miguel, Santa Maria, and Terceira. A gathering of islands like this is additionally called an archipelago. They are partitioned into three gatherings. The Eastern gathering is comprised of Santa Maria and Sao Miguel. The focal gathering is comprised of Terceira, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Pico, and Faial. The western gathering is comprised of Flores and Corvo. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The capital of these islands are: Corvo, Vila Nova do Corvo, Flores, Lages, Faial, Horta, Graciosa, Santa Cruz, Pico, Lagis, Sao Jorge, Vila das Velas, Sao Miguel, Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria, Vila do Porto, and Terceira, Angra do Heroismo. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â All the islands have there own little story on which they tell their history and significant realities and this all makes up the historical backdrop of the Azores. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â First I will begin with the island of Sao Miguel: which is otherwise called the Green island since shading given by the Forests. Sao Miguel is the most populated of the nine islands, and has a region of 297 square miles and a populace of 250,000. The disclosure of this island occurred at some point somewhere in the range of 1426 and 1439. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Santa Maria: The island of Santa Maria has a territory of 42 square miles. It is the southernmost island in the archipelago and its significant settlement is Vila do Porto its capital. Its careful date of disclosure is as yet a matter of conversation today. It is accepted that it was found somewhere in the range of 1427 and 1432. The settlement of the island occurred over the span of the fifteenth century. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Owing to its advantaged area, the island was then the port of call for Portuguese boats cruising the Atlantic. Angra was the first settlement to be flattened to the status of township (1534).
